"Climate Change and Preserving Cultural Heritage in the 21st Century"

Climate change presents a major challenge to the preservation of the world's cultural heritage, from historic cities and sites, to iconic monuments and structures. Along with the Getty Conservation Institute, NRDC is proud to be co-hosting "Climate Change and Preserving Cultural Heritage in the 21st Century," a panel discussion at the Getty Center on November 8th.

While environmentalists traditionally have been at the forefront in raising our collective awareness of the dangers of global warming, cultural heritage professionals are more recent arrivals to the debate -- both in understanding and documenting the ways climate change affects our historic buildings and structures, and in implementing preventive and corrective actions.

Moderated by Frances Anderton, the host of KCRW's "DnA: Design and Architecture," the panel of experts from the United States and the United Kingdom will examine the increasing impact global warming has on our cities, buildings and historic monuments, and how core values of historic preservation -- sustainability and reuse of materials -- play a significant role in addressing this issue.

Panelists will include:
Ted Bardacke, green urbanism senior program associate, Global Green USA
Sheryl Carter, co-director of western energy programs, NRDC
Patrice Frey, director of sustainability research, National Trust for Historic Preservation
Sarah Staniforth, historic properties director, United Kingdom National Trust

When: Saturday, November 8, 3:00pm
Where: The Getty Center, Harold M. Williams Auditorium, 1200 Getty Center Drive, Los Angeles

Admission is free, but seating is limited. To make reservations, send an email to reservations@getty.edu or reserve online.
